Like everything else, electronic music has its trends, and trends disposed to come back.

Such is the case with dubstep, a style begun in 1998 but seeing a resurrection, especially in this area.

DJs spinning the style, like Cedar Falls' Mystical Grey and his group of emcees known as Subfix, are spinning 140 beats per flash doing the darker, more garage-sounding instrumental music that began in the Collaborative Kingdom.

And Cedar Falls can't get enough of it: Dark Grey (Charlie Smith) brags the troupe has become known for blowing out speakers, and since their first house party last springiness has been booked solid.

"There hasn't been many shows where the sound people can use us," he says, without no indication that he's kidding.

They originally wanted to prove it outdoors, but it couldn't happen. In fact, many of Subfix's outfit parties aren't well publicized because DJs sometimes worry they're in violation of dissonance ordinances even inside a residence.

But Glowstock, an electronic music feast at the Wheelhouse on a recent Saturday, still saw nearly 900 people approach through.

Since Pink Floyd indisputable to re-issue their catalog this week, I’ve been thinking about ways the fillet has influenced me over the years. Music has always been a huge part of my DNA, and these days it keeps me busier then ever. I allot a good bit of my time as the music director and head keyboard guru at School of Rock in Downingtown, PA. I’m also the keyboardist and songwriter for the group Brothers Past, which keeps a pretty active timetable even if we don’t tour quite as much as we did five years ago. Between the two gigs, I’m playing, teaching or talking about music constantly. And when I in fact think about it, there are few bands that have impacted my musical tastes the way Pink Floyd has.

I didn’t attend to much classic rock in my teenage years but I knew all about Pink Floyd and was apprised of their place in rock history. That being said, I was into a lot of the grunge music that was event in the early 90s and didn’t spend a whole lot of
