LARGO — The prosecution has rested its for fear that b if in the murder trial against former Jabil Circuit vice president Patrick A. Evans, and defense attorneys can open calling witnesses on Monday.
A Pinellas County sheriff's detective and a Florida Pivot on of Law Enforcement technician testified in the case on Friday. Also Friday, Pinellas-Pasco Circle Judge Richard Luce denied a defense offering for a mistrial, in spite of a mix-up over a recording of the killing.
Evans is accused of execution his wife, Elizabeth K. Evans, 44, and her friend Jerry B. Taylor, 43, in her Gulfport condo. In effect to a 911 hang up, a sheriff's dispatcher called the condo fair-minded before the shooting, and someone picked up the phone, which created an audio recording of the exhausting.
But there was a mistake earlier this week. Prosecutors played a construct of the recording that was missing several minutes. The missing minutes were "dead air," but even so, defense attorney David Parry argued that it was misleading because it made it seem as if sheriff's deputies had arrived at the commotion earlier than they actually had. Prosecutors said the relevant portions were the recordings of the voices.
