Caracol is one of Quebec’s subdue-known unfledged performers – but her performances in Toronto have been narrow to showcases in the over and done with at Canadian Music Week and North by North East.
Now she’s coming to the bishopric’s nicest known acoustic music venue, Hugh’s Lodge, on a clone bill with Roxanne Potvin -raised in Gatineau, a five-year Toronto regional, and now living in Montreal.
Like Potvin, Caracol – truthful name Carole Facal – cheerfully combines intimate songs in both French and English. While Potvin emerged from a blues upbringing, Caracol blends American ethnic group and Jamaica stupefy-settled with a harvest ’50s tempt. Her ex-body, DobaCaracol, sold more than 100,000 records, won Felix Awards (Quebec’s counterpart of the Junos), and played well over 400 shows in 16 new countries.
As a solitary artist (with her own orchestra) she has opened dates for Serena Ryder in the Maritimes (and Serena has opened for Caracol in Quebec), and is performing in Toronto between concerts at the Winter Olympics and another European journey. Roxanne Potvin has performed at Hugh’s Elbow-room in the quondam, and will deliver with new matter she has been column since the move to Montreal last year. At her last Hugh’s Scope bearing, she came thorough to selling out the area; this conditions she’ll stage in both her intrinsic languages.
