An sprightly and athletic thief gained second story access to a structure in the 500 block of First Street West during the night of Oct. 7, using a come down gutter to clamber onto the roof and then prying open a bathroom window to participate in the building.
From there, the thief or thieves passed through the building to the locked, guts door of a computer equipment store, pried the door unstop with a 13-inch crowbar, and proceeded to pillage the place.
So much gear was taken out of the building that much of it could not be carried away and was left stashed in bushes in the current vicinity.
When the break-in was discovered the next morning and reported to the coppers, around 10:15 a.m., a quick search of the neighborhood turned up numerous pieces of computer gear.
Sonoma police then followed the evidence trail, and their own proficiency of likely suspects, which eventually led them to a probationer’s establishment and ultimately to the recovery of 90 percent of the reported stolen quality. An incomplete inventory left the final tally of stolen items unclear at thrust time, but among the recovered items was a 42-inch Samsung savannah-screen TV worth $1,500, stolen from the former Lokal restaurant on Broadway last January.
