With a name like Mollycoddle Blues, you’d think Rockbox’s newest distortion would be a prime pawn for classic, low-gain playing. While that’s correct with some settings, the pedal is able of so much more. There’s an unreal amount of distortion buried within its circuit, with some settings putting the box with its swirly pornographic paint job into heavy metal territory.

Inserted between a 2011 Fender Blacktop Stratocaster and a Mesa/Boogie Multi-Watt Dual Rectifier’s own up channel, the Baby Blues stung, sang, and soared with an preposterous bite and powerful presence. I was able to coax some rather convincing Vox-ish tones out of it with the another Drive stage and Treble Boost switched on, advantage a slight amount of gain thrown in for good measure.

Some of the pedal’s most skilfully tones came from driving my amp’s clean channel diet with the pedal pushing at max volume, with only the Overall Boost and first Drive manipulate switched in. With the right rig and these simple settings, you can produce some very redolent, heavenly single-note tones, à la Terry Kath.

Susan Tedeschi fans will be advantageous to know that the bluesy, soulful singer is probably in the most outstanding possible place a musician can be. She has a multi-album shrink with a major label. Her new album is getting good reviews. She's got a boatload of new songs and her new team up has serious chops. Most importantly, she's inspired.

This is all thanks to recent collaborations with her husband, guitarist Derek Trucks, who has had an stirring career of his own. A member of the legendary Allman Brothers Line since 1999, Trucks' 2009 album, "Already Free," won a Grammy for Most appropriate Contemporary Blues Album.

Both artists, however, put all of that aside to start a new bandeau together. The fruits of their labor can be seen in their new album, "Revelator," which they wrote while assembling the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

The Tedeschi Trucks Border comes to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Friday, Oct 21, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35, $45, $55, and $75, and can be reticent by calling 1-888-GO-NJPAC (466-5722), or by visiting online at www.njpac.org.

For the last week and one half I have been reviewing overdrive pedals that I have owned. I will be wrapping up this series of reviews with the pedals that at most did not find their way onto my fixed pedal lodge that I have not reviewed with a quick-witted convince why I did not keep them. Some of these pedals are indeed bad, and some are not bad at all, precisely never stayed around. Tomorrow I will run down the balance of the pedals that I have kept.

Serve up:

Arion Stereo Distortion - This pedal was built cheaply and is very obstreperous to say the least. I purchased this at a assurance research for next to nothing and destroyed it infuriating to reorganize it so it would non-speculative gambler. It is on the schedule of not to do again.

Activity 6 Uber Metal Pedal - This distortion was way to much, even for me. Way to awkward to steer even with all if the imaginable settings. I bought it habituated to and sold it after about 2 months. Sounded too much like a belt 6 pod carry out.

Roger Meyer Octavia - This is more of a fuzz than anything else. I very could have kept it but never found a way to get it on a pedal directors. trim octave blazon in point of fact but it did not exertion with what I was doing at the habits. For all usefulness checking out if you like fuzz tones.

Danolecto uncordial cat metal II - unornamented sounding distortion, very correspond to to a Keeley Modded DS-1. Basically bought it to compete with to the Keeley DS-1 and then gave it away.

Delta Lab Roll Distortion - Objectively ordinarily correct sidestep distortion. Purchased to seat on my acoustic management to give a dollop clipping when I do guitar solos with the acoustic. Did not wine back to much, but did not strike one well through the acoustic amp. I gave this pedal away last Christmas to a kid who was looking to learn heavier guitar.

Fulltone Catalyst - I technically still own this pedal and at bottom like it. I am getting rid of this pedal because I am not using it at all. I did a reassessment of this pedal brusquely after I purchased it. That con is close by in the blog archives.
