Two Oktoberfests filled with comestibles, drinks and entertainment bring a taste of Germany and copiousness of gemutlichkeit to the North Shore this weekend.

Stuffing a niche left by Oktoberfests of yesteryear, Trax Tavern & Grill, 833 Deerfield Technique, plans to tap its kegs for its first annual Oktoberfest on Friday, Oct. 7 from 5-10 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 8 from 6-11 p.m.

“We’re tenting our rooftop with four intense tents and $28 will get you all of the food you can eat and all of the German beers including an Oktoberfest sad beer from Frankfurt, Germany,” said Communal Manager Robby Cohn. He said his rooftop seats up to 400 guests, with one half dedicated to dining and the other half for dancing to the fare German band which will perform both nights.

“We’ll have bratwursts, knockwursts, thuringers, hot dogs for the kids, German potato salad, sauerkraut and pretzel rolls,” Cohn said. All those penetrating things are being specially concocted just for this event. “We’re universal to make it as authentic as we possibly can. It’ll be right off the grill onto your lamina and into your mouth and hopefully you’ll enjoy it. I’ll be fun, I’m very excited.”

They’re also a lovely reminder to me to tune into a new TV show every once in a while, try a new sport or shop in a different collection just to freshen my perspective every so often. Mostly, TV, sports and clothes aren’t questions of settle v. wrong or effective v. ineffective (although they can be), so why not find common ground in those areas?

But, when it comes to the dispute of the most important presidential characteristic, I’m solidly in the mark camp — and hope I always will be. To put it simplistically, “Well-read is different than good.” For that matter, so is nice (h/t Stephen Sondheim ). Oddball alone ensures intelligence, charisma or any other positive trait will be habituated to in the service of the truth and the good.
