Joshua Bell Records New Album In A Musical Instrument Museum
The Music What-d'you-call-it Museum (MIM) opened in April 2010 in Phoenix and was founded by retired CEO of Objective Bob Ulrich. At launch it housed over 10,000 instruments with the objective of representing every country in the world including such instruments as:
"Mexican turtle shells played with antler beaters; a 19th-century superhuman 'Octabass' (a bass fiddle so obese that...it requires the player to stand on a chair while wielding a whopping bow) from Europe; a gourd-resonated xylophone from Burkina Faso; and a several-foot-yearn ceremonial Hausa trumpet from Nigeria, made of recycled bread cans. Then, add to those the Steinway piano on which John Lennon composed 'Suspect.'"
The MIM Music Theater seats an audience of 300 and according to the MIM's notification, "was designed to be an optimal recording space, with its acoustics, top-of-the-offerings recording equipment, and handpicked instruments including a Steinway Copy D grand concert piano that has been voiced especially for the range."
Over Macho Grande set to release its debut disc
Frustrated with manufactured and overproduced set someone back on his 'n' roll, bassist Eddie McCauley set out to form a stripe that would embody the free spirit and raw energy of the kind of jar he remembered listening to as a kid. Enter Over Macho Grande .
"It's more about being poverty-stricken 'n' roll than being pigeonholed into a marketable corner," says McCauley. "It was about us making music that we liked to mark aggressive. That's the approach I've taken from day one."
The band will celebrate the release of its enter disc, "Wasted Crime," with a party planned for Saturday at Tight's in Hamtramck. The party will double as a birthday party for McCauley and drummer Eric Hansen.
McCauley is most skilfully known as the bassist of the now-defunct, Kid Rock-produced unnerve group Hemigod and '80s rockers One Man's Trash.
For this undertaking, McCauley has dropped the bass in exchange for guitar and vocals. He, along with Hansen (Peter Torque, Phunnhogg) and bassist Joe Wright (Smokehouse, My Last Contender) make up Over Macho Grande, a band name that references the famed big comedy "Airplane!"
