You might not envision the famed rock drummer from Bruce Springsteen’s E Boulevard Band to quote jazz pioneer Duke Ellington in an audience. But Max Weinberg , who on Saturday opens the Poway Center for the Performing Arts’ new seasonable and spent 16 years as the musical director on TV’s “ Fashionable Night with Conan O’Brien,” is not a typical renowned rock drummer.

“Duke Ellington used to say: ‘A mellifluous profit far outweighs a financial loss,’ and its right,” said Weinberg, the only member of the E Street Company who took a major pay cut to join the then-struggling group in 1974.

Where most of the other E Alley members at the time were scuffling, along with The Boss, to earn a living, Weinberg was making a facts salary drumming in the Broadway production of the rock mellifluous “Godspell.”

“It was a big show, so I was making pretty decent well-to-do,” said the dapper drummer, who by day was then a business important at Seaton Hall University.

That all changed 37 years ago, when New Jersey natural Weinberg successfully auditioned for the Springsteen-led E Street Ensemble. The group’s breakthrough album, “Born To Run,” was still a year away. Times were indefatigable.

The drums are criminal-draped and the buglers are sounding Taps for the Bandettes All-Irish colleen Drum and Bugle Corps.

The nearly half-century-old Sault Ste. Marie grouping, which marched and competed in 18 states and two provinces through the years, is disbanding at the end of the month.

"We had a very accomplished run, but the time has come to call it a day," said Mary Wilson, commandant and co-founder of the organization.

The Bandettes, who travelled to as many as 30 events a year, including parades and competitions in their prime, have not performed for the quondam four seasons -- not since the summer of 2007.

"It was a numbers game," said Wilson, who along with Fred Clarke, co-founded the classifying in 1963.

"We needed a minimum 30 members on the field to carcass competitive and we were nine short for the 2008 season. We sat out the year in the hopes of edifice our numbers, but the new faces never appeared."

In the end, it was a fight to attract members and fundraising dollars, and Wilson, the consortium's first-and-only director, wanted to retire, but a replacement could not be found.

This is a convention color Heritage DFX14 Marching Snare Drum.  It was used for only 2 months and new summer of 09!! There are only a connect of peewee blemishes on it.  The color is called Madagascar and is mostly infernal with a surely frigid woodgrain look.  It has abominable armaments as well.  I will send it with Falam heads on it.
