Fourth grader Gavin Mims was chairperson for the day on Oct. 13. He sold the most magazines during the Parent Association-sponsored publication drive. One of Gavin’s wishes that he granted was no homework.

Bayside students identify that math is so much fun. Mrs. Mims is doing some really neat lessons with the students, and the hallway is getting a lot of dollar words on the fence. Mrs. Kalaris used math in social studies when the students made their Antecedent Plates this year.

Mrs. Averitt had the fourth grade students set a poem about themselves. They are on display in the fourth grade hallway and very spellbinding to read. Students also made leaves or acorns with the different names that the children call their grandparents. On Grandparents’ Day, many of the grandparents were cheerful to see these.

This week, the eighth grade music class will be performing their own arrangements of "Chopsticks" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Instrumentation includes three octaves of choir chimes and 20 unlike percussion instruments. Students have written their own accompaniment to enhance the cuffs bell arrangements. This is the culmination of two projects for the first quarter of classes and incorporates disciple literacy in reading, writing and performing in a group home.
