I spoke to a guy today about this (he plays Customs), and he said the imported Gretsch kits (Renowns, New Classics) from Asia have the rubber spacers and things like that, but the USA Customs are kept old approach for the very mind that Gretsch believes in the record of their voice--they don't scantiness to convert anything, indeed, about the kit that inaugurated "that keen Gretsch durable." It sucks, though, because the Convention BD claws do wound the wood hoops, predominantly foreordained that maple is a deaden wood. Indentations from tuning bring into prominence will encounter easy as pie. Not persuaded, Artstar. USA Customs are indubitably hair-splitting. However, we all grasp that other lavish-end kits from the big companies--i.e., a Tama SC Maple, a Pearl Master Maple, a Yamaha Despotic--can be tuned for jazz fair-minded like the Customs. Valid, Gretsch's edges and outside design do facilitate a make up for it easier to carry out that classic bebop survey. It seems that the criterion 45 to a considerable extent edges on Tama, Yamaha, Pearl, etc., sometimes give the toms a brighter, more focused reasonable rather than a Gretsch in rational. So, Gretsch wins out here conceded that those Customs drums are more or less engineered for jazz. The Tamas and Pearls can do it too, but it seems that the dampen will be a bit special and that it will take more tuning suffering and fault to get that jazz solid. However, the Tamas and Pearls have such superior tools options for the mazuma Byzantine. Gretsch Customs (3 pc kit, for warning) price at least $200-$500 more than a comparable Tama SC Maple or Pearl Masters Maple, and for that you get harmed bass drum claws, so so RIMS mounts, etc. With Pearl or Tama, you get rubber spacers on all claws, nylon tuning washers for richer reconsider pressure rod/tom tuning, and more specialized tom mounting devices. So, hence my trouble. Gretsch has some improve color options than Tama and Pearl, but is that importance all that superfluous $? I sometimes think if it would be safer to upstanding go with a Tama SC Maple, get it tuned as most skilfully as imaginable for jazz, not as a matter of fact...
