Fair Lawn High School Marching Band Prepares for Competitions and Performances
Troop Director, Paul Kafer, acknowledged the hard exertion and talents of students this year and recognized the contributions of subsidiary band director, Jamie Szeinberg, as well as the ten staff members who worked closely with the varied sections of the ensemble. “We have an excellent, hardworking accumulation this year and the show will be one of our best!” Titled “Sure,” the show is written in three movements and reflects the themes of solid bonds, emotional bonds, and common bonds. The Cutters Marching Ensemble will compete in the largest marching band circuit in the country, the USSBA. Since the inception of the USSBA Resident Championships format in 2006, Fair Lawn has been the only private school to represent Bergen County. Last season, the band placed eighth all-inclusive and first in percussion in the prestigious event in Annapolis at the Army/Armada stadium. The group claimed its third consecutive Bergen County Invitational Championship as well, all-embracing all captions in Group IV Open Class competition.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Heather Ryan, 16, has dreamed of jetty the Miss Kanawha Majorette tiara since she first picked up a baton in the fourth group.

Last year's victor, Alex Ameli, a senior at George Washington Soprano School, passed on the honor to Ryan. She beat out seven other competitors. Ameli represented GW as its main film twirler, but was not eligible to win Miss Kanawha Majorette for a second-best year in a row due to festival rules.
After the tiara, sash, record and bouquet were presented to an ecstatic Ryan, all she could do was praise her coaches and everyone who helped her take in her dream.
"I've worked really strict, but everyone has. You get out of it what you put into it," she said.
