No catnap was had past 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in Downtown St. Joseph, as the sounds of snare drum rolls and unmitigated bass drums reverberated off buildings throughout the heart of the see.
Featuring about a dozen marching bands from all over Missouri, the hour-sustained Missouri Western State University Homecoming ostentatious display differed from the many parades in St. Joseph, not only in its creative direction, but also its tangible route.
Noticeably different, the parades main direction went down Frederick Avenue and west onto Faraon Boulevard, as opposed to the usual Francis Street route.
That set the shape for brighter, more intricate floats and longer songs and chants from participants.
We always like the Homecoming parades, Kay Siebler said, sitting with her son, Zeph. St. Joe has lots of parades, but we like this one because of the bands.
