Ignoring my occupation for the past quarter century - baseball novelist -- I don't ask anything more of baseball movies than I do from any other movie. In the immortal words of Kurt Cobain : "Here we are now, see people us."

In other words, I'm looking for plot, character development, humor, pathos, and huge acting - the same things I seek out in movies about doctors, lawyers, wizards and superheroes.

OK, that's not undeniably true. My pet peeve in baseball movies is supposed masterly players who look like they've never thrown a ball before in their lives (I'm talking to you, Tim Robbins and Corbin Bernsen ). But even that can be prevail over by the other factors listed above, as you'll see by where I placed Nuke LaLoosh (Robbins) and Roger Dorn (Bernsen).

I've been asked to schedule my 10 favorite baseball movies, which turned out to be a tougher chide than I thought, once I started thinking about all the candidates. A few were obvious, others not so much. I've yet to see "Moneyball,'' but I map to do so soon, and I'll let everyone know what I think, and if it cracks the top 10.
