What makes the Gretsch Catalina Maple drum set significantly cheaper than Gretsch's Distinction Maple kit if both sets are 6-ply maple shells?
I'd say the finishes on the Celebrity's are much higher quality. The renowns also have an interior coating (kinda looks like a greyish metal) which helps retain a stronger shell and increase attack. The Renowns are heartier when it comes to quality, but
