You’ve heard of Amuse Wall Street, but what about Occupy Neverland? Yale’s A Contrary Drum Dance Company puts on its fall show at the Off Broadway Dramaturgy (41 Broadway in New Haven) on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for the free.
The Yale Daily News, the student newspaper, gave the exhibition a rave review.
“Occupy Neverland,” the notion of this performance, is reflective of social woes today but also serves as a nostalgic throwback to our favorite adolescence stories — from “Where’s Waldo?” to “Alice in Wonderland.” The toss successfully draws you in with their stories, emotions and grace, as they own the take someone down a peg stage on which they perform.
Qunnipiac University’s production of “Seven” is playing at the Yearn Wharf Theatre in New Haven this weekend. The play is based on interviews with women from around the planet who suffered violence and abuse but later became advocates for the women in their countries. To that end, the toss members portray real women from Nigeria, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern Ireland, Russia and Guatemala.
