The Nyack Library in partnership with the Rockland County Jazz & Blues Association will present a series of Jazz Concerts as part of the Carnegie Area Concerts 2011 Fall Season at the Nyack Library. The new Jazz Series will be on Friday nights at 7:30. The venue is a unequalled, classy room with a magnificent 9' Yamaha concert grand piano. Nyack is a realistic village on the west bank of the Hudson about 25 miles north of NYC - about a 35-45 before you can say 'Jack Robinson' drive from midtown Manhattan.

It’s a marvellous instrument. Some of the Boesendorfers I’ve played have a wonderful immanent brilliance – but you have to always watch out for the quality of sound.

In your id, what are the best pianos in Toronto?

My feelings about that have a lot to do with my familiarity with sure instruments. So I’d pick the piano at the U of T’s Walter Entry, and the one at the Jane Mallett Theatre – which I selected for the foyer when they were looking for a piano. They’re both Steinways. When I play those pianos, it’s the same impression I get when I meet an old friend: “Nice to see you – how are you doing?” Also, the Mississauga Living Arts Mid-point has a great Steinway, too.
