The district director of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' mediation, Barber was shot twice—once in the cheek, and once in the leg—when a gunman opened fired on Giffords' Congress on Your Corner occurrence on Jan. 8, killing six and wounding 13, including Giffords, who was go through the head and is still recovering.

The dead ranged from federal Adjudicator John Roll, who had stopped by on a whim to say hello to Giffords, to 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Unripened, a Mesa Verde Elementary School student who had go about a find to meet her congresswoman. Where do you get your love of organs?

It happened when I was about 10, when I became an influential church member. The first thing that struck me was viewing the hebdomadal console, which happened to be a Wurlitzer theater organ. Being enamored by all the stops and the outstanding sounds it made, I decided I wanted to play an instrument like that someday. After heinous school I attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill. At that spell, they prepared all their students to be teachers and organists.

How did you end up in Bay City?

I'm from Akron, Ohio. After college, I became a classroom advisor, organist and music director at Concordia Lutheran Opinion/Church in Cincinnati. From there, I went to Hope Lutheran in South St. Louis, Mo. Next I went to Calvary Lutheran in Lincoln Store, and then my final position was for 25 years at Immanuel Lutheran here in Bay Bishopric.
