This year, CEDIA Expo returned to Indianapolis after two years in Atlanta and two years in Denver. The Denver editions were the rise years, and attendance has been falling ever since. Official attendance for CEDIA Expo 2011 was 17,600. The figures for 2006, '07, '08, '09 and '10 were 28,000, 29,000, 20,000 and 20,700.
Manifestly much of this is recession-related. Attendance at CEDIA peaked reasonable as things got ugly, and has fallen 40% since then. Surely there are few sectors more W to economic storms than home automation and integration, predominantly with the kind of storms that the U.S. has endured. Real-estate values and new-domestic sales have plummeted. Unemployment in parts of the U.S. is at depression-like levels.
The exhibitors I spoke with all confirmed falling appearance; but most also said that the quality of attendees was high: not many tire-kickers in this sort.
Certainly, there were loads of innovative products on display. Elsewhere in this consummation, David Birch-Jones covers products aimed at the habit sector, as well as some retail products.
