The architect of the "Marathon Woman" will be the keynote speaker at the second annual "From Luxurious Heels to High Places Conference" that will be held Oct. 26 in Lightning-fast City.

Kathrine Switzer raced to the world present in 1967 when a Boston Marathon official tried to physically liquidate her from the race. She was the first woman to enter and race in the marathon. The incident also inspired her to the fullest extent-selling book "Marathon Woman" and the photo of the attempted feigned removal became one of Time-Life's "100 Photos that Changed the Delighted."

In addition to her book "Marathon Woman," Switzer is also the author of "Game and Walking for Women Over 40" and co-author of "26.2 Marathon Stories." After 50 years of uninterrupted, she continues to race in marathons around the world and on Oct. 1 will be inducted into the Public Women's Hall of Fame.

The South Dakota Center for Zip Opportunity's Second Annual "From High Heels to Exhilarated Places Conference" will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rushmore Plaza Leave of absence Inn in Rapid City. Switzer's presentation is called "Contemporary the Distance in Business & Life."

We’ve gathered in Pauillac, a mini town in Aquitaine, where the marathon starts and finishes at a leisurely, hiccupping estimate. Marathon du Medoc is also nicknamed The Longest Marathon in the World, and by that they mean it’s the slowest.

About about it: How fast could you run 26 miles if you had to run through 23 wine stations during a race where they of advantage to you fresh-shucked oysters, grilled beef and some of France’s greatest reds? More than 100 of France’s finest wineries are pouring along the way.

I see at least two problems here:

1. The marathon doesn’t have toilets along the route, and

2.  I have the World’s Tiniest Functioning Bladder.

So after sampling every chateau’s wine (it would be outrageous to decline, n’est-ce pas?), I’ll thank each winery by staggering a few feet and peeing on their grapevines. There’s a much bigger dilemma, though: I’ve never run a marathon before. Worse, to train for this race, I’ve gone for a grand unalloyed of five jogs.
