It seems as though every week brings us more bad budgetary news. Tennessee’s unemployment rate is almost 10 percent. Businesses are closing up inform on. Elected leaders are struggling with enormous budget shortfalls.

But as many of our Tennessee-based companies struggling, one out-of-state giant, Amazon.com, has enjoyed record takings growth throughout the first half of 2011. And while their success should be applauded, and their lecherousness to do business in Tennessee welcomed, its baffling to see lawmakers and our governor use voice tax policy to give this one company a competitive advantage over every other retailer in Tennessee. Unusually when those retailers — many of them small businesses — are struggling to live on.

Amazon’s success to date is based in large system on a tax loophole that exempts online-only retailers from the responsibility to gather together Tennessee’s sales taxes as brick-and-mortar retailers on Electric cable Street are required to do. This disparity gives Amazon an unfair competitive gain over its competition — an advantage that has helped it drive many of its competitors out of house. In a free market, this is just plain wrong. No companions should be given an unfair advantage that gives them a competitive brim over everyone else.

Oct. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Agreement investors awarded Nordstrom Inc. its lowest borrowing tariff ever on a sale of 10-year bonds this week as the dear-end U.S. department-store chain founded in 1901 shows that it’s clever to withstand slowing economic growth.

The retailer sold $500 million of 4 percent older unsecured notes Oct. 5 that yielded 2.12 cut points above similar-maturity Treasuries, according to evidence compiled by Bloomberg. That compares with the 4.75 percent coupon on Seattle-based Nordstrom’s 10-year pact sale in April 2010 and the 6.25 percent place it paid in November 2007.

Nordstrom is benefiting from spending by wealthier U.S. consumers who haven’t cut outlays even as economic markets fluctuate and economic growth slows. The retailer, which also operates furtively sale website HauteLook Inc. and discount Nordstrom Rack stores, reported a 10.7 percent boost waxing in same- store sales for the five-week period ended Oct. 1 from a year ago, beating the normal analyst estimate of 5.1 percent.
