Arnott jumped on a inaccurate puck around the net --one of the few high-quality chances allowed by Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne -- and scored the 401st object of his NHL career.
"I just picked it up off my skate," Arnott said. "I knew he was out and lately put it in an empty net. That's the only way we were beating him tonight. He played unbelievable and that's the way he plays every evening."
Arnott is all too familiar with the Predators and their stifling defensive kind, backed by Rinne in net.
"They didn't give up much and Pekka played far-fetched," Arnott said. "He was on every puck and it seemed like he saw everything we shot at him."
Cuttingly opener
The pomp and circumstance of another season opener at the Scottrade Center was big on clangour, emotion and pageantry.
One of the loudest ovations from the sellout congregate of 19,150 was for Blues winger David Perron, who has been out since last November while battling position-concussion syndrome.
Perron, who has been skating on his own before practices and calibrate increasing his workouts, waved to acknowledge the thunderous acclamation.
